Mycology Club Sticker

As the multimedia manager of the California Polytechnic State University Mycology Club, I designed and printed club stickers. I wanted to show the different facets of the club thought this sticker to highlight the different activities the club does throughout seasons. As a club we voted on this years club mushroom to be the Porcini mushroom (Boletus edulis). This is the mushroom depicted in middle of the sticker. The knife and the basket are used to symbolize the weekly foraging trips the club leads during the rainy season. The jar embodies the cultivation side of the club where we work in a lab on during the dry season.
I personally printed these stickers using the flexographic printing method. Because of this, understanding and utilizing the attributes panel in Adobe Illustrator was crucial. In the image above it shows the overprint fill method of tracking, shown in the overprint preview view, that I used to ensure the sticker design would print properly regardless of small registration deviations. Because there is a stroke line of black between overlapping colors, overprinting the stroke on the illustrations and the fill on the text covers all the tracking needed.
Varnish was another addition that I added to this sticker design. I properly created a new layer for the varnish detail and made positioned it about the artwork layer but below the dieline layer. I chose a color for the varnish that would stand out from my design, to remind me it is varnish and not the color that will be actually printing there. I also utilized the attributes panel and the overprint preview view to select the overprint fill option for  varnish.
